This meetup we’re discussing Crash by J. G. Ballard, a controversial 1973 novel that explores the intersection of technology, sexuality, and modern identity through characters obsessed with car crashes. The book is deliberately unsettling and written in a detached, clinical style. Rather than offering clear judgment, Ballard forces us to confront how technology shapes desire and how modern culture turns violence into spectacle.

As we talk, we might consider: Is this satire, prophecy, psychological study, or all three? And how did the novel make you feel as a reader?

This is not your average book club. We dive into books that don’t flinch at existential crises, societal breakdowns, the spectacle of modern life, addiction, and the mess of being human. Drinks and hard questions are welcome. This is a book club for those who want to wrestle with heavy texts, challenging ideas, and the uncomfortable truths of existence. We read works that demand deep thought, including philosophical discussions, cultural critique, raw memoirs, and literature that refuse easy answers.
