This is an every-other-Saturday-night get-together for people who want to have inappropriately serious conversations with strangers. All are welcome and no a priori knowledge of philosophy or anything else is required or expected. There are no fixed topics and no rules other than the categorical imperative to not be assholes to one another.

Come meet cranks, fanatics, weirdos and friendly people who actually know a lot about philosophy and other stuff. Melt a hole in the dreaded Seattle Freeze with the power of Big Talk (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EUbjpwyesk0).

This week we'll be back at The Redhook Brew Lab. They close at 11:30pm, so those of you with enough conversational stamina will need to relocate around that time. Saint John's and Captain Blacks are usually good options.

Instead of a totally not required reading this week we have a totally not required artist. It's not our usual thing, but I think it works since Ai Weiwei's art often appears intended to provoke conversation. There's an exhibition on his work at SAM right now. (If you're able to go this Thursday, June 5th, admission to the museum is free, but you'll still need to reserve a ticket here.)

Here is a video about one of Ai Weiwei's pieces and another short one with some biography. He's gotten a lot of attention over the years and made his own films, so there are plenty of ways to learn something about his work.
