What we’re about

Design Thinking & Innovation (DT&I) is a community of creative people who seek to share their skill & knowledge to create a meaningful positive impact in the community. Our focus is designing for change and creating positive social impact using techniques in Human Centered Design (Design Thinking), UX & Lean.

Our mission is to create communities by educating, building relationships, establishing meaningful goals and seeking fieldwork in the community in Houston and beyond. We aim to connect interested individuals and learn about Design Thinking, Service Design, and User Experience. We encourage the sharing of knowledge during our events. We welcome individuals who have a passion for learning & personal growth but more importantly look forward to designing and developing better communities.

DT&I is the community of progressive brains about practicing the skills that could bring greater change. This is a forum to bring on people from processes, product and service design backgrounds. Come share the expertise you have if you already work in any of the above areas. If you are new to the design process then this is your place to learn new design approaches.

Ever considered how clothes impact mental clarity? When we think about solving problems, we often focus on what's visible, painful, or obvious. But what if something as simple as what you wear is quietly shaping your ability to focus, make decisions, and perform?

For our June DT&I (Design Thinking & Innovation) session, we’re thrilled to welcome Dr. Steffie Tomson—a cognitive neuroscientist, entrepreneur, and founder of Steffie’s Shoes—for a fascinating, science-backed look at how our clothing affects how we think.

Dr. Tomson draws from her research in attention, distraction, and sensory processing to show how even subtle discomforts—tight seams, scratchy tags, awkward fits—can act as “micro-stressors”, quietly draining mental clarity and interfering with focus.

Whether you’re making high-stakes decisions, leading a team, or just trying to stay present, what you wear could be helping you—or holding you back.

Join us to learn about the intersection of neuroscience and design. It might change the way you view your closet forever.
