🌕 Full Moon Yoga – A Sacred Practice in the Light of Soma
(According to Traditional Hatha Yoga Principles)
Description:
In the lineage of Ancient Hatha Yoga, the moon (Chandra) holds a deeply symbolic and energetic significance. The full moon—known as Purnima in Sanskrit—is a time of maximum prana (life force) in the lunar cycle. It represents calmness, coolness, and inward reflection—qualities essential in balancing the fiery, solar energy (Ha) that often dominates our modern lives.
Full Moon Yoga is a slow, meditative, and deeply introspective practice guided by the lunar rhythm. Rooted in traditional Hatha Yoga, this practice emphasizes the Chandra Nadi (ida channel)—the cooling energy pathway in the body—and encourages the cultivation of Soma, the nectar of stillness and inner bliss.

### 🧘‍♀️ What to Expect in a Full Moon Hatha Yoga Class:

🔸 Grounded Asanas (Postures):
Gentle, stabilizing poses are selected to enhance flexibility, open the hips, calm the nervous system, and ground your energy.
🔸 Chandra Namaskar (Moon Salutations):
Unlike the dynamic Surya Namaskar, Chandra Namaskar is a cooling and balancing sequence, ideal for full moon nights, performed slowly with breath awareness and intention.
🔸 Pranayama (Breathwork):
Special focus on Chandra Bhedana (left nostril breathing), Nadi Shodhana (alternate nostril breathing), and Sheetali/Sheetkari (cooling breaths) to harmonize inner energies.
🔸 Meditation & Mantra:
Meditative stillness under the full moon is enhanced with silent sitting, lunar visualizations, or chanting of the "Chandra" mantra:

> “Om Chandraya Namaha” – A sacred chant to invoke the moon's healing energy.

🔸 Shavasana with Moon Bathing (Optional):
Conclude with deep rest, ideally outdoors under the moonlight, to absorb lunar vibrations. This is believed in yogic tradition to restore ojas (vital essence) and nurture emotional balance.
