North Bull Island is particularly good because it combines mudflats, saltmarsh, dunes, beach and grassland, attracting a huge variety of birds. Itโs also a UNESCO Biosphere area.
๐ฆ What to Expect
The outing is aimed at enjoying birds and nature together, whether youโre an experienced birder or completely new to birdwatching.
We will:
- ๐ถ Walk at a relaxed pace, stopping regularly to look and listen for birds.
- ๐ญ Use binoculars to observe birds without disturbing them.
- ๐ฆ Look for a variety of shorebirds, waders, gulls, ducks and other coastal species.
- ๐ Learn how to identify birds by both their appearance and calls.
- ๐ Explore different habitats around North Bull Island, including the beach, dunes and wetlands.
- ๐ธ Have opportunities for bird photography.
- ๐ฌ Share knowledge and help beginners get comfortable using binoculars and identifying species.
- ๐ฟ Respect the wildlife and keep a safe distance from birds, particularly feeding and nesting areas.
Most importantly: thereโs no pressure to identify everything! The goal is to enjoy the outdoors, learn something new and hopefully discover some interesting birds along the way. ๐ฆ๐ญ
