What can we see?

September is an especially interesting time because of autumn migration. We may see:

• Green Sandpiper — one of the highlights of Turvey.

• Curlew Sandpiper and Ruff — possible during autumn passage.

• Northern Pintail — beginning to arrive in late September.

• Black-tailed Godwit

• Dunlin

• Redshank

• Wigeon and Teal

• Light-bellied Brent Goose — arriving from the Arctic in autumn.

• Kingfisher

• Water Rail

• Merlin and Peregrine Falcon

• Snipe

• Buzzard and Sparrow-hawk

Areas to explore:

1. Frank McManus Hides: Probably the main birdwatching spot. It offers views across the estuary and saltmarshes. Check the muddy areas and shallow water for waders.
2. The ponds and reed-beds: Look out for Water Rail, Moorhen, Coot, Sedge Warbler and, with some luck, Kingfisher.
3. The channels on the northern side: Good areas for Green Sandpiper and Kingfisher.
