Visualising Irish Politics - Stefan Müller
Details
Dublin Dataviz is delighted to have Stefan Müller as our final speaker of 2026!
Stefan is an Associate Professor at University College Dublin and is the creator of the Irish Polling Indicator
Irish politics generates a steady stream of data: opinion polls, voter surveys, election results, and parliamentary activities. Turning them into insights for the public is harder than it looks. In this talk, Visualising Irish Politics: Turning polls, election results, and survey data into insights for newsrooms and the public, Stefan will provide an overview of datasets on Irish politics and show how the data behind the Irish Polling Indicator gets built, validated, and presented to newsrooms and the public.
Stefan will also cover how to construct time-series data from newspaper archives, what it takes to turn poll reports into open-source datasets, how to visualise data clearly and the accuracy of the underlying polling aggregation model in all Irish general elections between 1989 and 2024.
He will also compare tools available for building interactive data visualisations for news articles. Expect an honest account of what works, what frustrates, and which tool suits which job.
Join us for what's going to be a thought-provoking evening, with Christmassy pints in Arthurs pub surely to follow.
