Details
Join us online for our April event with speaker Billy Mag Fhloinn.
Billy Mag Fhloinn is a native of Limerick, and lives in the heart of Corca Dhuibhne, on the Dingle Peninsula in western Ireland. He holds a PhD in Irish Folklore, and a B.A. in archaeology, from University College Dublin. As well as working as a university lecturer, he is also a wedding and funeral celebrant, musician, and artist.
Billy has a fascination with Irish folklore, and the academic study of folkloristics, since his undergraduate days in UCD. He now teaches this subject and is constantly reading, studying and searching for new avenues of enquiry.
Billy also works regularly in the field of experimental archaeology, where his main area of focus is prehistoric metalworking technology. He is involved with Umha Aois, an interdisciplinary team of artists and archaeologists, who meet regularly to explore the skills and techniques involved in ancient bronze casting. Along with other members of Umha Aois, he has spent the last few years making reproductions of ancient musical instruments.
