Welcome to our first meetup of 2018!
We're delighted to welcome Aidan Boran and along with our second speaker Brendan Murray presenting at this months meetup.
First Speaker:
Aidan Boran is a previous speaker at Node.js Dublin. Check out Aidan's previous talk "Using Node.js on IoT devices" (https://youtu.be/GQ4DW7RlIBs). Aidan has 25 years experience in collaborative research & development roles in the Telecomms Industry. Since 2004, he has worked as a senior researcher at the world famous Bell Labs on the devices that drive the Internet of Things. In particular, he focuses on designing and building devices that are very easy to use, make use of the latest web, data and device technologies and provide extraordinary experiences for users at home, at work or at play. He holds a Ph.D in Computer Science, has authored 10 patents, over 20 publications and two books.
Talk Title:
The secret life of everyday things.
Talk Intro:
This talk describes how IoT and AI can be combined to infer our daily activities using cheap sensors attached to the things we interact with.
Second Speaker:
Brendan Murray looked after the health of the IBM SmartCloud Mail service, responsible for the creation of monitors and the capture of metrics to ensure the smooth running of the service, as well as transforming the development process to use modern agile delivery techniques. Brendan's roles have included leading the development of IBM's Unified Communications and Collaboration solution for the web and looking after international text processing for the Lotus Development brand. He has also represented IBM in the Java Community Process and on the Unicode Consortium.With more than 30 years experience in Information Technology, Brendan has also held roles in CIM-Centret and Kontor Automation A/S in Denmark, as well as ICL in the UK. Brendan has a MSc in Software Engineering from DCU. More importantly, Brendan is an inveterate geek.

Talk Intro:
When geeks become beeks, there's no limit to the amount of trouble they will cause their diminutive charges, intruding in all aspects of their fascinating society. Here how one person introduced sensors to monitor his hives, allowing him to see and measure the hives.
