What We Eat and Why it Matters: People who love food invited!

Details

Hello TEDheads!

What's your favorite meal? (if you don't say breakfast, you may be some sort of monster)

Mine's obviously brunch. I love the fusion of breakfast with savory foods - mmm, chicken and waffles.

For as much as I love great food and coffee, though, I've not really spent time exploring why I like certain foods or what impact food has on the world. Maybe you haven't either.

Whether you're a foodie and interested in what happens in your brain when you taste something or you wonder about the environmental impact of eating, come along!

I can't wait to talk about food with such an amazing diverse community.

It's going to be an amazing night, see you there :)
Dustyn

Please note costs for the night are 3 Euro.

Below are two videos to watch before the event. Do your best to watch them as they help us have even better conversations together.

# # ★ Video 1: What happens in your brain when you taste food

https://www.ted.com/talks/camilla_arndal_andersen_what_happens_in_your_brain_when_you_taste_food/transcript?language=en

With fascinating research and hilarious anecdotes, neuroscientist Camilla Arndal Andersen takes us into the lab where she studies people's sense of taste via brain scans. She reveals surprising insights about the way our brains subconsciously experience food -- and shows how this data could help us eat healthier without sacrificing taste.

# # ★ Video #2: What's wrong with what we eat

https://www.ted.com/talks/mark_bittman_what_s_wrong_with_what_we_eat?language=en

In this fiery and funny talk, New York Times food writer Mark Bittman weighs in on what's wrong with the way we eat now (too much meat, too few plants; too much fast food, too little home cooking), and why it's putting the entire planet at risk.
