Share & Critique

Share & Critique

Details

Important Note: Currently, there is no organiser running our weekly Share and Critique meetups. Please use the comment area below to arrange meeting up with the other attendees. Should you wish to run this event, please contact one of the organisers.

This meetup is to critique each other's latest works and chat about all aspects of writing and life.

If you would like a writing prompt, the following two sites are good sources:

Reddit.com/r/WritingPrompts (http://reddit.com/r/WritingPrompts)

and

writersdigest.com/prompts (http://www.writersdigest.com/prompts)

Make sure to bring several paper copies of your work if you would like to share it.

Note: If you want to share you work without having it critiqued - that's fine too.

Formats and word counts:

The word limit is about 500 words.

If you find that too short you can bring longer pieces, but be sure to remember to give enough time for others to share their work. Bring along copies of the first page or an excerpt of your favorite part, up to 500 words. This will provide a focal point for the critique. These pieces shouldn't be longer than 2,500 words.

If you're working on something longer than 2,500 words and you want to get feedback on it, you can bring it along, but bear in mind that it might not be read in its entirety as people may not have the time.

The best file formats to submit writing to the Gmail account are .doc .rtf and .pdf. This is to make sure everyone can read it on whatever device they're using.

Submissions:

Alternatively, you can send your work to the Gmail address dublinwritersmeetup@gmail.com a few days prior to the meeting. (Even still, it's good to bring along several copies or excerpts to the meetup so it can be read on the night.)

You can also login to the Gmail account and read what other people have submitted. It can be accessed it by going to http://gmail.com in the web browser. If you are already signed into google, you may need to sign out first. The password for the account is "published".
