Design Systems & Web Bluetooth
Details
Sponsors: Interplay
Hey all,
we have three awesome talks lined up for you next week. Two talks on Design Systems and one on hacking on Web Bluetooth. The talks are:
=== Talks ===
Building and maintaining Design Systems: A Lean Startup Guide - Michael Fitzgerald, Interplay, https://twitter.com/mkeftz
Design Systems are so hot right now! 🔥
But where do you get started? And how do you maintain it? In this talk, Michael will discuss a Lean Startup approach to building and maintaining your Design System - from defining your audience, deciding what to include, designing reusable APIs for components, and how to make your Design System accessible to everyone.
Painting Pixels With Web Bluetooth - Luke Bonaccorsi, LeedsJS, https://twitter.com/codefoodpixels
Bluetooth is everywhere nowadays, you can find it in door locks, heart rate monitors and even in forks. However, this usually means that we also have an app for each device taking up space on our phones, no matter how infrequently we use it. Wouldn’t it be great if we could just use the web?
With Web Bluetooth, we can control these devices through the browser! In this talk we’ll take a look at the basics of Web Bluetooth, the Bluetooth Low Energy GATT layer and how to use these through JavaScript using the practical example of how I built an interactive LED pixel display. By the end, I hope you’ll be inspired to try controlling your Bluetooth devices through browser!
The No UI Component Library - Gary Meehan, Distilled SCH, https://twitter.com/garmeeh
A look at "The What", "The Why" and "The How" of Distilled SCH’s no UI component library and how it fits into our design system. Including an overview of the tech along with some simplified open source examples.

We'd also like to give a big shoutout to our sponsors Interplay (https://interplayapp.com/) who'll be providing pizza on the night.
Interplay is a new tool which allows you to do fast prototyping that combines the power of design systems, production code components and live collaboration. You can design directly in the browser or in our desktop app, with your changes stored instantly in the cloud. Use existing assets from Sketch, Figma and Invision Studio alongside code components and visual elements. Collaborate securely with colleagues and share prototypes for user testing without any separate upload step. it also allows you to integrate Design into your delivery process by synchronising your React, Angular or Vue code components straight from your git repos or get started with the high-quality open source components we've already imported.
Doors will open at 6.30pm with talks kicking off at 7pm.
Thanks,
Chris & Pat
