Sword Fighting Fundamentals: Basic Shots
Details
Sword Fighting Fundamentals is a recurring, beginner-friendly series where you can learn the techniques and skills used in medieval foam sword fighting. Each class focuses on specific skills, with hands-on instruction and immediate feedback to help you improve.
Our classes are immediately followed by our regular Sunday practice, giving you the opportunity to test out the new skill in group combat.
What Is This Class About?
This class will focus on two fundamental sword swings used in Belegarth. You will learn how to perform each attack correctly, then practice combining them into effective combinations.
This class is designed for those with little to no experience.
What You Will Learn
- How to properly perform two fundamental sword attacks
- Correct footwork, stance, and body positioning for each attack
- How to maintain balance and control while striking
- How to transition smoothly between attacks
- How to combine individual strikes into effective combinations
- Common mistakes and how to correct them
What This Actually Looks Like
This class follows a structured, hands-on teaching format designed to help everyone learn at their own pace.
The instructor will begin by demonstrating the first attack, explaining the proper stance, footwork, and movement needed to perform it correctly.
Students will then practice the attack while the instructor observes, provides individual feedback, and helps correct their technique.
Once everyone can successfully perform the first attack, we'll move on to the second and repeat the process.
After learning both attacks, we'll practice combining them into combinations, focusing on smooth transitions, timing, and control.
