Let's Talk about Fonts!

Fonts are the most important element of a book but are often overlooked and ignored.

I'll introduce the basic concepts of typography like kerning, ligatures, protrusion, and tracking, introduce the idea of vector graphics/fonts vs bitmap fonts, discuss the different types of font available (Type 1 fonts, TrueType fonts, OpenType fonts) and their advantages and disadvantages, discuss font rights, possible sources to get fonts. Finally, I will discuss the different font types (serif, sans-serif, monospace, small capitals, etc.) and their role in a book.

The session concludes with discussion your book and what type of font might fit it in your genre (and what doesn't!).
