#2 Cloud Native/Kubernetes meetup of 2023 - Hosted by SUSE & EnterpriseDB

Details

We're coming back in June for a special Thursday evening hosted by SUSE and EnterpriseDB!

We will have two talks on our agenda:

First talk: Data on Kubernetes Do's and Don'ts - Sebastiaan Mannem & Sergio Romera

Join us for an exciting feature demo where we will showcase the power of CloudNativePG and its seamless integration with Kubernetes. In this session, we will walk you through the step-by-step process of installing the Kubernetes plugin, deploying the CloudNativePG operator, and setting up a Postgres cluster.

But that's not all! We will demonstrate how easy it is to insert data into the cluster, perform switchover operations to promote a standby node, handle failover scenarios, and ensure data protection through backups and recovery procedures.

Stay tuned as we unveil the seamless rolling updates, both minor and major, that ensure your Postgres cluster remains up-to-date and resilient.

Sergio assists businesses in building high-availability database solutions. With over 25 years of experience in IT, including development, database administration, project management, and solution architecture, Sergio is a true database expert focused on helping organizations build high-availability database solutions while optimizing performance.

In this short presentation, Sebastiaan will take you through his unique experience in running CloudNative data solutions
and brings you a top 5 things that will enable you to be
as successful too.

With 25 years of experience in the Database space,
and with 8+ years of experience in the CloudNative Data space,
Sebastiaan Mannem has become living proof of what it takes
to run future-proof data solutions.

Second talk: Run, Walk, Crawl - GitOps Misadventures - William Rizzo

At every stage of technological growth, hiccups and missteps are not just expected but necessary for innovation and improvement. This is especially true in the fast-paced world of GitOps and Platform Engineering, where the integration and synchronization of code development and IT operations can make or break the efficiency of an organization.
In the talk, we take a candid journey into the fascinating world of GitOps as seen through the lens of real-life mishaps and misadventures. By examining the hurdles encountered, and the subsequent solutions implemented at various customer Kubernetes
platforms, I aim to share valuable insights on what went wrong, how it was resolved, and most importantly, the lessons learned.

William is currently working at SUSE as a Lead Architect Consultant. As the primary focus, he is helping customers design, build, and run their Rancher, Kubernetes, and Internal Developer Platforms. He has been wearing many hats in the IT world, Support, Engineering, Pre and Post sales, Product Owner, and Consulting. Starting from High Performance Computing, Storage, Converged and Hyperconverged Infrastructure.
William enjoys volunteering at the Dutch Cloud Native/Kubernetes Meetup. He has lived in several European countries, and now the Netherlands is the place he calls home.
