Movie Meetup @ Cinema Akil - Who is Still Alive
Details
This is the first time the group DXB Cinephiles is posting an event, so naturally as the host I am quite excited.
The movie - "Who is still alive" is directed by Nicolas Wadimov and is currently showing at Cinema Akil which is located inside Alserkal Avenue in Al Qouz. Cinema Akil is presently hosting a Palestinian Film Festival, and this film is part of that curated selection.

About the Film - Nine voices from Gaza. Nine people who tell of their life before, then during the war, in the neighbourhood whose outline they draw in chalk on the ground. By recreating their own Jabaliya, Nuseirat or Khan Younis, each character unveils their minuscule and fragile space of humanity, which corresponds to the dreams, hopes, dangers, comfort and discomfort of a life oppressed, prevented, but not yet reduced to ashes, not yet totally plunged into oblivion. By telling us their stories, the protagonists attempt to reconnect with themselves, to stop being ghosts. Simply, to come back to life.
About Cinema Akil - Cinema Akil is an independent cinema platform that brings quality films from across the world to the audiences in the UAE. Showcasing directors and filmmakers across the decades, Cinema Akil aims to create awareness and interest in film and the cinematic arts.
Post-Screening Conversation
After the movie those who wish to hang back to have a conversation about the movie or movies, we can stay back and spend sometime together at anyone of the cafes in Al Serkal Avenue. If you are new to Dubai and going to Al Serkal for the first time its a generally cool area with cafes and artsy stores, and we have Cinema Akil within it.

A little note from the host
This event is meant to be casual, there is no pressure, just shared cinema and conversation. If you are a cinema fan, and for you it can be one of the means to both learn something about the world and connect with people then I would genuinely love to have you join.
I am not a writer or actor and I have done nothing with cinema professionally. But I love movies. So this is what I hope the first event and the ones that follow will be about : People who love films that are coming together to watch, reflect and talk.
Looking forward to seeing some of you there.
