The notion of intelligent environments, Internet of Things and smart cities has been around for a while. But now that everyone has a smart phone in his hands this vision seems to be taking off. From cars, refrigerators to parking meters an estimated 50 billion devices will be connected with each other by 2020. This offers a wide range of possibilities for new applications and business opportunities. André Fatton and André Graf, founders of erl.io and creators of the IoT message broker VerneMQ, will walk us through the Internet of Things as what it represents from a communication viewpoint: a life network of messages inflight.

Valentin Spiess, spatial interaction specialist and ceo of iart ag, will talk about the challenges of designing meaningful and intuitive concepts of interaction with a smart environment.
