Lesley Hirsch is the founding director of the New York City Labor Market Information Service (NYCLMIS) at the CUNY Graduate Center. Founded in 2008, NYCLMIS informs strategic planning and day-to-day decision making in New York City’s workforce development system by providing research, information tools, and strategic analyses. A recent New York City Workforce Funders report calls the NYCLMIS as “one of the bright spots in the US for local LMI.” NYCLMIS’ clients and funders include the New York State Department of Labor, the New York City Economic Development Corporation, the New York City Departments of Education and Small Business Services, the Human Resource Administration; Robin Hood Foundation, JobsFirstNYC, and the Fund for the City of New York.

Ms. Hirsch is known as an innovator and leader in making labor market information accessible and understandable to a range of audiences and was one of the first LMI professionals to recognize the analytical importance of real-time labor market information. Lesley has held senior research and evaluation positions developing policy-relevant research for more than 20 years. Before joining NYCLMIS, she was research director at the Education Law Center, a public interest law and advocacy firm representing more than 300,000 children who live in New Jersey’s poorest cities. Lesley is a CUNY doctoral student in political science, and has taught theories of the policy process and New York City politics at the City College of New York. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Barnard College.
