Erhu (Chinese Violin) Class
Details
Instructor: Mr. CK Tang
The erhu is a two-stringed bowed musical instrument (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bowed_string_instrument), more specifically a spike fiddle (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spike_fiddle), which may also be called a "southern fiddle", and sometimes known in the Western world as the "Chinese violin" or a "Chinese two-stringed fiddle". It is used as a solo instrument as well as in small ensembles and large orchestras. It is the most popular of the huqin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huqin) family of traditional bowed string instruments used by various ethnic groups of China. A very versatile instrument, the erhu is used in both traditional and contemporary music arrangements, such as in pop, rock, jazz.

How do you get an instrument?
We encourage you to provide your own instrument. The class will guide you in purchasing an instrument, which costs as much as a standard textbook. More information will be given in the first class. So if you don’t want to buy an instrument, THAT’S FINE! Not all students want to buy one, we know! The music department has two available for borrowing.
