Special Silicon Valley edition @ the Googleplex

Details

This month we're doing a special Silicon Valley edition in the Southbay hosted by Google at the Googleplex.

Space will be limited so do let us know in advance if you can't make it. As usual, the Meetup will be recorded and videos will be linked here after the event.

Agenda:

6:00pm - Doors open
6:30-7:15pm - Pause and Resume WebAssembly with Asyncify, Alon Zakai
7:30-8:15pm - A brief history of Google Earth and its journey to the web, Wasm and cross browser, Jordon Mears

About the talks:

Pause and Resume WebAssembly with Asyncify

Pausing and resuming code can be useful for various things, like implementing coroutines, async/await, limiting how much CPU time untrusted code gets, and so forth. This talk will show you how to use Binaryen's Asyncify pass to do that, entirely in wasm, with no special support from the VM! We'll also see examples of how to use this in multiple languages and runtimes.

A brief history of Google Earth and its journey to the web, Wasm and cross browser

A look at the 14 plus year history of Google Earth, its reboot for the web and journey to cross browser using WebAssembly.

About the speakers:

Alon created Emscripten and co-created WebAssembly and asm.js,
and works on the Wasm tools team at Google.

Jordon is the Tech Lead Manager for the Google Earth team at Google.
