Go Serverless! AWS essentials for React Developers

Details

Bring your laptop; we're going to learn by doing! (Designed for intermediate to advanced ReactJS web developers wanting to gain some new familarity with AWS serverless techologies).

We've all dreamed about it: creating a new application that takes off, making the world (and our bank accounts) a better place.

The wonderful thing about our industry is that - IT COULD HAPPEN! However, until recently, if you were to gain some traction with an application, you'd quickly be swamped with operational tasks: configuring more servers, worrying about uptime, DOS attacks, redundancy, backups, latency, etc. - but not any more. With modern serverless offerings from AWS and other cloud providers, you can have a full, Enterprise Level architecture with limitless scalability without leaving your couch or breaking the bank.

Join us as we jump on our keyboards and learn the essentials of working with AWS serverless technologies, its effect on your professional life, and how you can leverage it to bring your product ideas to market in no time at all.

BY THE END YOU'LL HAVE:

  1. learned about the AWS services most relevant to web dev
  2. had a hands on intro to the AWS cli tools and JS sdks for ReactJS
  3. deployed an actual web app with a graphQL api to the AWS cloud... for FREE!

It's going to be educational and FUN! No prior experience with AWS is expected. This is a safe space for us to all make mistakes, ask questions, and learn. Space is finite so RSVP now! :)

NOTE: This class is for those comfortable with cli tools, git, ReactJS, and some graphQL. If you've never worked with these before, we may move too quickly for you to keep up. Instead, come to one of our future meetings for beginners. We'd love to see you there.

I will add more details to this agenda as we approach the meeting date.

NEEDED:

  1. Fully charged Laptop and power cable (Windows, Linux, or Mac)

  2. Installed: Modern Web Browser (your choice, but I'll use Firefox)

  3. Installed: Text Editor (your choice, but I'll use Visual Studio Code [free at https://code.visualstudio.com/])

  4. Installed: GIT for your OS [free at: https://git-scm.com/downloads]

  5. Installed: NodeJS. LTS version is recommended. [free at: https://nodejs.org]

  6. An AWS account. It requires a credit card, but we will not venture outside of the 'free tier' limits.
