See the movie "Chasing Ice" - Tuesday, Dec 10, 7 pm

Details

On Tuesday, December 10 at 7 pm, the film “Chasing Ice” will be shown at Southdale Library, 7001 York Ave. S., in Edina. “Chasing Ice” is the story of one person’s mission to change the tide of history by gathering undeniable evidence of the impact climate change is having on the world’s glaciers. There is no charge for admission.

In the spring of 2005, acclaimed environmental photographer James Balog traveled to the Arctic on a unique assignment for National Geographic: to capture images that would tell the story of the Earth’s changing climate. Even with a scientific background, Balog had been a skeptic about climate change. But the 2005 trip up north opened his eyes to an alarming insight on how humans are impacting the earth, and sparked a personal challenge within him that would put his career and his very well-being at risk.
Within months of his trip to Iceland, Balog embarked upon the boldest expedition of his life: The Extreme Ice Survey. With a band of young adventurers in tow, Balog began deploying revolutionary time-lapse cameras across the brutal Arctic to capture a multi-year record of the world’s changing glaciers. Balog’s hauntingly beautiful videos compress years into seconds and capture ancient mountains of ice in motion as they disappear at a breathtaking rate. “Chasing Ice” depicts a photographer trying to deliver both evidence and a way forward in the face of monumental challenges due to rapidly changing climate.
This film screening is part of the Climate SOS Film Series and is co-sponsored by Organizing for Action, Minnesota Chapter. Admission is free. For more information about the Climate SOS Film Series, contact
