Topic: Burnout - How can we help each other

Presented by Denise Yu @deniseyu21

We've all probably experienced burnout at some point, either in our tech careers or in another aspect of our lives. Burnout is a state of chronic stress that causes physical and emotional exhaustion, detachment, and feeling ineffective. It has professional and personal impacts, and it manifests in a slightly different way for everyone.

For those experiencing burnout or on the way to burning out, seeking ways to reduce stress and anxiety is difficult, because by the nature of the problem, we have no more spare cycles when we reach this state. Let's get together to share our experiences and discuss ways that we can identify the signs of burnout in our colleagues and friends, hopefully finding ways to help each other avoid the likelihood of burnout in the future.

The topic was chosen at XTC on Tuesday 15th May 2018

About XTC

The eXtreme Tuesday Club (XTC) is London's oldest agile meetup, and has been meeting since 1999. Initially the meetup was focused on discussing Extreme Programming (XP), but it has expanded to include anything XP, agile, lean, or the larger context in which we do software development activities.

We welcome all software development newbies, practitioners, and experts to discuss topics of interest over drinks.
