EAA106 Chapter's VMC Club
Details
This month's video scenario: our pilot is on a flight from MTV in the Blue Ridge Mountains to GOK in Oklahoma. This flight is an 842 mile flight at night. A preflight exam of the aircraft reveals no problems. The airport elevation at MTV is 941 feet. The minimum safe altitude in that area to the Northeast, Northwest and Southeast is 5800 feet. After takeoff on runway 13 the pilot suddenly loses his PFD and MFD. The control stick feels like something is fighting him. When looking outside he questions the shadow of something in the landing lights. What would you do?
Question of the month: Crosswind landings can be a challenge, but besides the touchdown, where in the pattern might we face the greatest risk for loss of control?
