NY Community Run for Boston

NY Community Run for Boston

Details

From the NY Flyers President:

Alan Gardner
Good afternoon to our beloved NY Flyers and the greater running community and people that visit our page. This is an invitation to an important, meaningful community run this Saturday, April 20th at 8 a.m. Details are below.
Yesterday's events at the 4:09 mark of the Boston Marathon stopped time for many of us. We were frozen with the horror and tragedy of a senseless act of violence perpetrated at one of, if not the holiest marathon event on the calendar. The Boston Marathon is the grand daddy of them all...and it always will be. It has a mystical existence...how many races do runners tend to avoid signing up for a charity slot because one is "supposed to qualify" to run it? Where runners don't wear the race gear until they've officially completed the race? Well, that mystique still exists and runners are a far more hearty, tough bunch of hombres than any coward acting with complete malice and disregard for humanity could ever compute. Our sport is international...it knows no physical borders or any boundaries in age, race, creed, religion, ethnicity, physical challenges, sex, gender preference, political affiliation, not anything...even if you're a Sox or a Yankees fan. So, let's go out and show the world who we are and that we don't take crap from anyone...we just come back stronger than ever before. And let's honor the BAA, it's staff and volunteers and its amazing race, the people of Boston, the Boston police and other first responders, the runners, their families and friends and, surely last but hardly least, those that were lost or injured in this senselessness.
The Flyers invite anyone and everyone: Flyers, members of any and all other teams, unaffiliated runners, people who don't run but support humanity and running-for fun and/or for competition to gather at the Maine Monument at Columbus Circle at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 20th. Once we gather a few words will be said and, by 8:15 a.m., we will be off to loop Central Park's bridal path one time at a leisurely pace. You can do the whole loop or any part of it. You can run, you can walk. We will take the bridal path to avoid conflicts with any cyclists out training or racing. I suggest that if you have Boston Marathon gear, from any year, that you wear it. It's ok if you don't, but then try to wear something blue and yellow, the race's colors in many years.
Please RSVP on this link to let us know if you will be there. I will post this on my personal page as well.
Thank you. Any questions, message me on FB or email me at amgardneresq@gmail.com.
One love and peace to all.
