Welcome to Effective Altruism Greece 🌍

A global community of ambitious thinkers, pragmatic idealists, and grounded optimists—now taking root in Thessaloniki.

We believe the world’s biggest problems deserve better solutions. That means using reason, evidence, and compassion to find the most effective ways to help others—and then acting on them.

This isn’t about slogans or quick fixes. It’s about asking: How can I do the most good with the time and resources I have?

🔍 What do we focus on?

We explore and support work on the world’s most pressing and neglected problems—especially where the right actions today can shape the long-term future for the better.

Some of the key issues the community is working on include:

Catastrophic risks
• Preventing an AI-related catastrophe
• Preparing for and mitigating global pandemics
• Reducing the risk of nuclear war
• Avoiding large-scale great power conflict

Safeguarding the long-term future
• Advancing AI safety and governance
• Improving institutional decision-making
• Supporting global priorities research

Improving lives today
• Fighting global poverty and improving health outcomes
• Reducing animal suffering, especially in factory farming
• Promoting scalable solutions for mental health
• Supporting climate action that’s cost-effective and targeted

We also dive into how you—as one person—can have a surprisingly big impact through your career, donations, entrepreneurship, or community engagement.

TED Talk screening – a powerful, bite-sized talk to spark new ideas.
Special guest ⭐️: Kyle Lucchese – Fresh from the international EA scene, Kyle's only in town for a few days —this is your chance to hear what he’s learned, what actually works, and where the EA movement is heading next.
Open discussion + hangout – ask questions, debate ideas, or just vibe with curious, thoughtful people.

Language: We’d love to do everything in Greek—but part of what makes Effective Altruism powerful is being part of a global conversation. So while we’ll make space for Greek in discussions, the core content, resources and most opportunities will be in English.
