Details

This easy walk takes in the very diverse history of Spitalfields and Whitechapel. We start at Aldgate and will visit the House of Annetta, now a community hub with garden, cafe and library, originally built for a Huguenot silk merchant in 1705. We then explore the hidden alleys and courtyards of Whitechapel before visiting two Jack the Ripper sites. Route continues to the site of the Old Roman Gate at Aldgate and the Tomb of the Unknown Roman Girl. Our walk continues up through Spitalfields Market and Charnel House, passing former soup kitchens and surviving synagogues from 18th century.
Our walk continues along famous Brick Lane where there is the option of enjoying some traditional beigels in the very first Beigel Shop, established in 1855.
