This 6-mile walk begins in the edgy backstreets of Hackney Wick. Pop-art abounds in this up and coming area close to the Olympic Stadium. We initially join the River Lee navigation canal before joining the Hertford Union Canal. Here we pass welcoming canalside eateries as well as taking in Victoria Park, one of East London's loveliest green spaces, with a replica Chinese pagoda, The Dogs of Alcibiades and a great Sunday market with street food and music. The Hertford Union is a historic waterway, built in 1830 and the canal includes several locks and a Grade-II listed cast-iron stop lock bridge at its junction with the Regent's Canal. We then follow the Regent's Canal and see some of the original cottages and listed lock-keeper buildings that still survive, giving a tangible sense of the canal's industrial past. At Haggerston we'll see an interesting art installation with sharks in the canal! On route to Islington, we'll pass Wenlock Basin, a canal basin just east of Islington / Hoxton, rich in canalside character: narrowboats, historic warehouses turned into flats and quiet water views. As we approach Islington, the canal walk becomes more urban and we end the walk at the entrance to the Islington tunnel which is the longest such tunnel in London and runs for 878 metres underneath Angel Islington. We will emerge in bustling Islington with many options for pubs and cafes.

Street food stalls at the Victoria Park market. Option to bring packed lunch. Many options for cafes, pubs and restaurants at the end of the walk in Islington.
