Equal Rights for All: An Evening with NYCLU

Details

Join us for an enlightening and inspiring evening dedicated to the intersection of animal rights and human rights. As passionate advocates, we understand the profound interconnectedness of all forms of oppression and the necessity of striving for universal liberation and equal rights. This event is an opportunity to deepen our understanding and commitment to these principles, as we come together to learn, discuss, and create.
You will hear from NYCLU, the NY Affiliate of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) about the Equal Rights Amendment which guarantees protections to all New Yorkers. NYCLU focuses on protecting and advancing civil rights and liberties on local and statewide levels. Prop 1 is a proposed amendment to protect everyone's rights and reproductive freedoms at the state constitutional level. It expands the categories protected from discrimination to include:
- ethnicity,
- national origin,
- age,
- disability,
- and sex including sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes. It aims to keep New Yorkers — not politicians — in charge of their personal decisions.
After the talk and Q&A session with NYCLU Senior Organizer, Drea Herrera, we will create art to help spread the word about the initiative.
The event will take place at the back room of the restaurant May Kaidee, serving delicious Thai plant-based food. Please make sure to order something from the menu to support this woman-owned sustainable business hosting us.
