Join our 9 April Toastmasters club meeting to hone your public speaking skills. In this meeting the table topics session will be around the theme of the day - unconscious bias in AI.

AI bias occurs because human beings choose the data that algorithms use, and also decide how the results of those algorithms will be applied. Without extensive testing and diverse teams, it is easy for unconscious biases to enter machine learning models. Then AI systems automate and perpetuate those biased models.

Here are two articles, one from the Forbes and other from the HBR to get you started on our collective journey to reduce unconscious bias in AIs.

Our meetings are on every 2nd (English), 3rd (Mandarin) and 4th (English). Every meeting is 1.5 hours, just right for the learning and efficient enough to cover all aspects of a Toastmasters meeting. :)

Hope you can join us and experience another fun yet professional Earthlings Toastmasters meeting to hone speaking and leadership skills based on three main themes - sustainability, wellness and veganism. Earthlings Toastmasters Club has members from all over the world, including China, England, Hong Kong, India, Jamaica, Korea, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, and the U.S. It is a 100% online Toastmasters club.

Our 76th meeting will be as follow:

Date: 9 April 2023 (Sunday)
Time: 10:00-11:30pm Hong Kong time (GMT+8)
Venue: Zoom (the Zoom ID and password will be sent to participants before the meeting)
Theme: Bring Your Own Speech
Cost: Free to join as a guest

Our meeting/gathering includes the following:
*Prepared speeches (usually 5-7 minutes each)
*Table topics speeches (impromptu speeches, 1-2 minutes each)
*Evaluations and reports on the speeches and meeting roles
*A simple break (group stretching exercises)

The meeting format of Earthlings TMC is fun, simple and effective. We learn from each other and also help each other develop into good speakers, listeners and leaders. These concentration and communication skills are helpful at work as well as in personal situations. Some misunderstandings (or disasters) could be avoided if we can express our thoughts in a peaceful, logical and clear manner.

Please feel free to come in 10-15 minutes earlier to test out Zoom and mingle with us. Guests are welcome to attend and observe in our regular meetings or book clubs a few times while deciding to sign up as an official member.
