Waking Up is part memoir and part exploration of the scientific underpinnings of spirituality. No other book marries contemplative wisdom and modern science in this way, and no author other than Sam Harris—a scientist, philosopher, and famous skeptic—could write it.
The theme of the day is "Mindfulness". In addition to discussing the book of the day, you could also share your experience about any book on mindfulness.
You are also welcome to be an audience member...not every one has to speak if you don't feel comfortable but we do ask that every one joins with your camera on. More details below. Please read on :)

What is Earthlings Book Club?
The Earthlings Book Club is one of the many member benefits of joining Earthlings Toastmasters Club. We are under Toastmasters International, a non-profit educational organisation that focuses on leadership and communication, especially public speaking. We open the book club to the public, and the host will always be a friendly member from the club.
As Earthlings, we are all about expanding our horizon. Many of us read for hobby, work or personal growth. From books, we gain ideas, insights and wisdom beyond our daily experience. By sharing what we read, we supercharge this process and open our minds to ideas we may not imagine before. It is also a great way to get to know each other. For the Toastmasters members, we definitely get more ideas for our next speech!

What to share in the book club?
Here are some suggestions on what to share, if you choose to speak.
- Who is the author?
- Summary of the book
- Key plots/ideas
- How does this book speak to you?
- Who would you recommend/not recommend this book to?
- Do you have any questions about the book you still think about?
- Any other thoughts, feelings etc.

Structure of the meeting
The host will ask questions or moderate the conversation so every one gets to share their thoughts.
We also encourage the sharers to read a short paragraph/some quotes aloud from the book. This will help the audience get a taste of the book. After the sharing, the audience could ask questions or share their thoughts on the subject.

When are Earthlings Toastmasters meetings?
Earthlings Toastmasters meetings are on 2nd (English), 3rd (Mandarin) and 4th (English) Sunday morning, 10:00am-11:30am GMT+8.
The book club is run in a completely different format from the regular meetings. It's a lot of fun and do visit us too!
