It's ironic that despite living in the East Bay for heeella years I've never actually hosted a photo walk here. And by popular demand, Lake Merritt will be our next destination. SF folks - you'll finally get to experience what it's like to cross the bridge and frantically search for parking 10 minutes before the event OR take BART and avoid making eye contact with performers breakdancing in the middle of the train. I'm very excited for you.
The full loop around the lake is about 3.2-3.4 miles but if we get tired we can hop on Lime scooters if they're out there and roam around. You all know I fucking love riding those things and always encourage everyone to hop on (if any Lime recruiters are reading this - please hire me as a brand ambassador k thx). During the walk we'll take photos of the lake, skyline, Grand Lake Theatre, and general street life.
We can grab food afterwards at Grand Lake Kitchen and get drinks at Bar Shiru, which is one of the Bay Area's first established listening bars. It's a fairly small intimate space with stellar cocktails and lofi hip-hop/jazz vinyl records playing over a high end speaker system.
For those who are still up late and haven't blacked out, there's a Middle Eastern spot nearby that's open late. I don't remember the name but will follow the shawarma scented trail at 2 AM and find it.
This event is welcome to folks of all ages and photography experience levels. You're welcome to stay for as long or as little as you want, and bringing a camera is optional.
