Gorgeous Glass and Jawdropping Jewelry: The Art of René Lalique
Details
René-Jules Lalique is considered the indisputable Art Nouveau master of jewelry design, turning his artistic endeavors into his extraordinary glass sculptures of the Art Deco era. Fascinated by 3 central themes--floral, fauna and the female form--his whimsical, lyrical compositions in an array of materials – gold, semi-precious stones, enamel, and glass--are the perfect encapsulation of late 19th century design. A collaboration with perfumer François Coty led to the creation of the first customized perfume bottles and eventually transitioned Lalique’s career toward mass-produced, high-quality decorative glass, including vases, car mascots, and architectural elements.
