East LA Ecstatic Dance at 11am EVERY SUNDAY
Details
We meet every Sunday for a chill dance in the grass with sound bath afterward by our host, Cris Beasley aka More, Queen. She sings in light language which you can follow off to a floatly altered state of consciousness where deep reprogramming is possible. Here's a track for you to try out with nighttime animals from Oaxaca, MX and a guided meditation.
Bring yoga mats, blankets, pillows, and whatever you need to be comfortable for this latter part. You're very welcome to bring a picnic lunch for afterwards as well to stay as long as you like. Come for the dance, the sound bath, the picnic, or all of the above.
Meet at the Daimyo Oak, pictured above, just to your right if you enter via the rose garden. Here's the exact map pin. If by some chance there was already a group there, please wander onward to see where we are. Follow the music!
We gratefully accept donations at the event, but none are required to attend. This is truly intended to be a community, not a group of customers. We are committed to this being inclusive place, regardless of gender, race, sexual preference, or economic circumstances. On weekends, there is a $4 fee for non-residents of San Marino which is payable to the park at the entrance gate via cash or card.
Free parking is abundant on the streets on either side.
Ecstatic dance is a free-form, guided movement practice where there's no choreography, no steps to learn, and no wrong way to move — just you and the music, letting your body express whatever is alive in the moment. As a curated flow of sound moves you, it becomes meditation in motion: a way to release tension that words can't reach, feel into your emotions rather than think about them, and reconnect with the pure, uncomplicated joy of simply moving. Because there's no performance and no fixed outcome, each session is deeply personal, yet the shared container makes it powerfully collective — a safe, judgment-free space where you can be playful, expressive, and unpolished, and walk away feeling a little more like yourself than when you arrived.
