About us

A club for people in East London who want to get properly good at making pizza - and who fancy meeting other people who are into it.

Every other Sunday afternoon we get together for a hands-on, chef-led session. You stretch your own 48-hour slow-proved dough, top it how you like, and fire it in a dome stone oven. Then everyone sits down and eats what they made, together. That last part is the point: twelve people round a table comparing their crusts is how the friendships start.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN

  • How a long, slow-proved dough actually works, and why it beats a quick one
  • Hand-stretching without tearing the base or flattening the rim
  • Sauce, cheese and topping ratios - why most homemade pizza goes soggy
  • Reading a hot oven: launching, turning, and pulling at the right moment
  • How to get closer to this at home in a normal domestic oven

WHO IT'S FOR
Complete beginners are welcome and no equipment or experience is needed. Come on your own - most people do, and you'll be making pizza next to someone within ten minutes. Adults only (18+). Groups of friends, teams and birthdays are welcome too.

YOUR HOSTS
Rob Dewan organises the group and is there in person at every session as your point of contact. A Zzetta chef leads the class itself.

WHERE WE MEET
Zzetta, Rathbone Market, Canning Town, East London. Five minutes from Canning Town station (Jubilee line and DLR), ten minutes from ExCeL, and a short hop from Canary Wharf and the Royal Docks.

AFFILIATION AND COST - SO THERE ARE NO SURPRISES
This group is run by and hosted at Zzetta, a pizzeria in Canning Town. Sessions cost GBP 29.99 per person, which covers your dough, all the toppings, chef tuition, the pizza you make and eat, and a drink. Places are capped at 12 so everyone gets real hands-on time. Payment and ticketing are handled off Meetup through Zzetta's OpenTable page - RSVP here and we'll point you to the booking link. Booking closes 48 hours before each session because your dough is started two days ahead. Halal-friendly, vegan and gluten-free options are available, just tell us when you book.
