Mt. Higby, Middlefield CT

Note: This hike is not for novice or beginning hikers due to the elevation gain and difficult terrain. We will not be responsible for attendees who are unable to maintain the pace and/or complete this hike.

We will meet at 12:45 pm at the trail-head on the westbound side of Rt 66 in Middlefield, about .6 miles west of Guida's Restaurant on rt. 66. We will leave promptly at 1:00 pm.

Mt. Higby is an 892' trap rock ridge on the Mattabesett trail in Middlefield, CT. This hike starts out moderately steep with some mild scrambling, then tends to level out a bit, but is still punctuated with ups and downs. There are several excellent vistas along the hike.

Distance: About 5 miles (approx.) round trip.

Net Elevation Gain: about 900 feet.

Time: 3 hours (approx.) Pace: 2-2.5 mph

Please wear appropriate footwear (i.e. hiking boots) and clothing, at least one quart of water per person, and snacks. Hiking poles may be helpful as well.
