Yale-Myers Forest, Union CT
Details
The Yale-Myers Forest is the northern part of the 8000 acre Yale Forest, its northern border being CT Rt 171 across from Bigelow Hollow. This is an approximately 8.5 mile hike with an elevation increase of about 1000 feet. We will hike the blue blazed Nipmuck Trail going south from the Yale Forest Outdoor Classroom (across from Bigelow Hollow on rt 171), down to the intersection with Barlow Mill Rd. On the return trip, we will take the blue blazed Nipmuck trail north, then go left on the blue-white blazed spur to Walker Mountain, and then use some old logging roads that border (but do not cross into) the Hull forest property to return to blue blazed Nipmuck Trail and continue north to the the Outdoor Classroom.
This is a moderately difficult hike, due to the elevation gain, the length, and some stream crossings.
Time: 4.5 hours (approx.), 8.5 miles. pace: 2-2.5 mph
Please wear appropriate footwear (i.e. hiking boots, no sneakers), clothing, hiking poles, micro spike in your backpack (in case we encounter ice), at least one quart of water per person, and high energy snacks.
