Virginia Creeper CAMPOUT!!!

Alright fellow ETAG folks, we have a trip that is sure to be a real treat!! Join us as we travel to Virginia to camp and ride the famous Virginia Creeper Trail Steven W. was kind enough to book us a space in the Beartree campground for late-September! The site is booked, so please pay Steven the $30 cash (to cover the camping) when you arrive. Thanks Steven!!

Damascus, Virginia is a beautiful small town in southwest Virginia. Here, the Appalachian Trail goes through the tiny downtown and the famous Virginia Creeper Trail is nearby.

There is a limit of attendees for the campsites (15) and the The Virginia Creeper Trail has outfitters with bike rentals available and shuttle services. Reservations for bicycle rentals may be a good idea. Call an outfitter for any questions regarding that. Mountain bikes or hybrid bicycles are ideal. Road bicycles are not recommended!! Helmets are required!!

The plan is to leave Knoxville sometime Friday afternoon and set up camp at our sites in Beartree Campground. You can ride the Creeper Trail, hike on the AT, explore the quaint towns, or chill at the campground. Grayson Highlands is nearby with the famous wild ponies.

We can ONLY have 8 vehicles at the three campsites—total. Extra vehicles have to pay $5 per vehicle to park in the campground and have to park in a different area from 8pm to 7am. Not our rule, it’s the campground policy.

The cost is $30 to camp with us in our reserved sites (4, 5, & 6 in Chipmunk Circle). Steven reserved the sites so please pay him when you arrive.

The campground is roughly a 2.5 hour drive from Knoxville, TN. It is TENT ONLY. No trailers or campers are allowed—per the campground.
