Join us at Café Hagen in Bellevue for a relaxed Non-Fiction Book Club where we explore interesting ideas, share different perspectives, and connect with other curious people.

Each meetup will feature a selected non-fiction book or article(s) and plenty of thoughtful, friendly conversation.

Somewhere Else, Some Other Time

Have you ever thought you might have been happier in another era? Or found yourself daydreaming about living somewhere completely different, returning to a place you once lived, or retiring somewhere far away?

In this meeting, we’ll talk about why other times and places can seem so appealing from a distance. Are we imagining the place itself, or a different version of ourselves living there? Are we overlooking the ordinary difficulties of life elsewhere? And is romanticizing another time or place always a form of escape, or can it tell us something useful about what we’re missing or wanting now?

We’ll read the following two essays and use them as a starting point, but the conversation can go wherever the group takes it.
