River Ouse, Telscombe, Rodmell Circular Walk, 7.5 miles

WALK UPDATE In view of the rain we have been having I have worked out a shorter route with Di, of 6 miles . One of us will lead the long route, and for those that would prefer to get back sooner - can go on the shorter leg.

We'll meet from 10 a.m. for a 10.15 start. This walk has lots of variation of terrain and scenery. We start off walking alongside the River Ouse in the direction of Piddinghoe. Crossing Piddinghoe Road we enter a scenic Bridleway and climb a hill, then going through a short woodland stretch and passing some houses down a rough track. Turning off down a narrow wooded Bridleway we head towards Telscombe village. This is a very small quaint Hamlet with no shops or pub. From here we head downwards to an open valley with far reaching views and passing through a farm, before heading up a steep hill to Rodmell village. This is another picturesque little village, with a house once lived in by Virginia Woolf. Passing through a churchyard - we follow a footpath around a field, then into a partly wooded path down to the small village of Southease. This is another quaint picturesque village, with a round towered, probably Saxon church. The end of the walk is now about fifteen minutes down a rough road, crossing over the river Ouse back to the start. We will stop part way round to eat our sandwiches etc. There is a cafe at the start/finish of the walk. Total ascent : 750 ft. Two steep hills, no stiles
