Battle Gunpowder Walk 🚶‍♂️

The Walk
This is a circular walk of about 6.8 miles starting and finishing at Battle Abbey.
The walk will take us through a part of Battle that was the center of the gunpowder industry for 200 years. Look out for the Grade II listed Old Peppering Eye Farmhouse which is at one of the sites where a powder mill once stood, and where one building associated with the production of gunpowder still remains.
There is an interesting stile that we will cross. I wonder who will know the name given to this type of stile.
We will stop and take a 20 minute break during the walk. There will not be an opportunity to purchase food during the walk, so please bring a packed lunch if you wish to eat anything when we take the break.
We will walk at a medium pace. The walk is undulating with the odd steep bank/hill but not overly challenging.
This walk is strictly for Members of the 'East Sussex Walking' Meetup group and their guests. Assemble at Battle Abbey:
We will assemble at the main entrance into Battle Abbey at 10:45m. The walk will commence at 11am, or sooner if all attendees are present.
This walk is strictly for Members of the 'East Sussex Walking' Meetup group and their guests. If you wish to attend this walk and are not a current paid-up member of this group, you must register a profile on Meetup.com and send an application to join this group and have it accepted, and pay the annual group membership fee, before attending this event. Anyone who is not a paid-up member of the group, or a guest of an attending member, will not be able to join the walk".

Travel to the Event and Parking:
There is a train station at Battle should you choose to use public transport. If you do then please walk up the hill into Battle and meet us outside the abbey.
If you choose to drive you will find a variety of car parks in Battle, and there is also parking in some of the side roads. Please always check the notices for parking restrictions.
If you need a lift to get to the event, then you may use event 'Comments' to request this, stating your whereabouts. If you are fortunate enough to be offered a lift by another member, then please offer to contribute to their costs. Please do not RSVP to the event until your transport has been confirmed.
If you are coming by public transport, the Stagecoach planner is excellent and even gives you a map of the journey.
