Westfield and 1066 Henge Monoliths
Details
PARKING AND ASSEMBLY
Coming from Hastings to Westfield on the A28, turn right at the signs for Westfield Surgery TN35 4QE and 1066 Walk. Drive a short distance past the gate for Westfield Surgery and park in the layby and along the right-hand side of the wide slightly rough lane.
We will aim to start walking at 10:30.
PUBLIC TRANSPORT
Bus 329 operates between Hastings Station and Westfield Surgery. Arrives at Westfield Surgery at 09:22 and returns at 14:57. (Check times before travelling).
TOILETS
Available at Three Oaks Pub if we decide to stop there for coffee/drinks.
LUNCH
We will stop for lunch so please bring your favourite sustenance and something to sit on. Three Oaks Pub says we are welcome for drinks as long as we are happy to sit on the benches outside - a small section is under cover. Since it's Mother's Day, they will be extra busy inside. Would be courteous if we bring boot covers for going into the pub as our boots will be muddy. There is also a bench opposite the pub.
OUR WALK
This walk is an easy 6.8 miles - few hills and only 2 stiles! We explore east of Westfield following part of the 1066 Country Walk as well as other footpaths across grass fields and through small woods. There are farm lanes and one section on a quiet country lane. Some panoramic views, rich spring bird song, and babbling Sailor's Stream.
Grass will be unavoidably wet and there will be mud around some farm gates. Walking wellies/boots are essential. A walking stick can be useful for balance when the path is slippery.
"This walk is strictly for Members of the 'East Sussex Walking' Meetup group and their guests. If you wish to join this walk and are not currently a paid-up member of this group, you must register a profile on http://meetup.com/ and send an application to join this group and have it accepted, and pay the annual group membership fee of ยฃ5, before arrival. For further information contact Norman Crouch on 07503 142469."
IMPORTANT
1. To contact me on the walk day, please phone/text me rather than messaging Meetup. I will send my number to attendees a couple of days before the walk.
2. Please remember that accidents can happen anywhere. You take part at your own risk, and the walk leader cannot be held responsible for any injuries.
3. Consider bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hat, rain jacket, warm jacket, gloves/warm hat depending on the weather, and of course wear comfortable footwear. Walking poles are useful since paths may be slippery.
I look forward to welcoming you on Sunday 15 March.
Each and every one of our footsteps helps to keep our paths accessible. ๐๐๐ณ
