OUR WALK
This walk is an easy 6.8 miles - few hills and only 2 stiles! We explore east of Westfield following part of the 1066 Country Walk as well as other footpaths across grass fields and through small woods. There are farm lanes and one section on a quiet country lane. Some panoramic views, rich spring bird song, and the babbling Sailor's Stream. We will pass by Great Maxfield - "L-shaped timber-framed house. The North South wing is C15, close studded with a massive sandstone ashlar late-C14 chimney breast on the West wall topped by 2 octagonal shafts. The first floor overhangs at the North end on a moulded bressummer and brackets, and above is a similarly overhanging gable with fretted bargeboards and an attic window. On the first floor is an oriel window with a cove above and beneath it. Slate roof. The East wing is a late C16 addition with squares of plaster infilling. Tiled roof. The whole building has casement windows with small square leaded panes." The owner of this gem has over many years created a wonderful 350 acre conservation area. Interesting reading at:

2. Please remember that accidents can happen anywhere. You take part at your own risk, and the walk leader cannot be held responsible for any injuries.
3. Consider bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, sun hat, rain jacket, warm jacket, gloves/warm hat depending on the weather, and of course wear comfortable footwear. Walking poles are useful since paths may be slippery.
I look forward to welcoming you on Sunday 10 May.
Each and every one of our footsteps helps to keep our paths accessible. ๐๐๐ณ
