Every year on March 15, Tagata Shrine hosts the Hōnen Festival, one of Japan’s quirkiest traditional events.

The highlight is a giant wooden phallus made from Kiso cypress , carried on a portable shrine (mikoshi) from the Otabisho to Tagata Shrine.
The festival celebrates and prays for good harvests, prosperity, and fertility.

With its open-minded and cheerful atmosphere, the festival attracts many visitors from overseas
It’s a relaxed, joyful celebration where people laugh, eat, and enjoy the moment together
As an old verse says, “Fields and mountains alike smile at the Tagata Festival.”

️ The Hōnen Festival is designated as an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Komaki City.

Plan for the Day

Before the main procession, we’ll enjoy the festival atmosphere at an easy pace:
Try local street food from the stalls as a casual lunch
Walk around the area

• Around 15:30 – Arrives at Tagata Shrine

There is a public restroom near the station exit — we’ll meet around that area.

→ Limited Express bound for Shin-Unuma
• Get off at Inuyama Station
• Transfer at Inuyama Station
• 11:42 Depart Inuyama Station
→ Train bound for Heian-dori
• 11:49 Arrive at Gakuden Station

️ The Tagata Shrine Hōnen Festival will be held unless there is extremely severe weather.
It may take place in the rain, so having some light rain gear is recommended. Since it can get very crowded, a poncho is generally easier to move in than an umbrella, but please use your own judgment.

⚠️ Please note: The area will be very crowded on the day of the festival.
We may need to split into smaller groups.
If you get separated, please use a map app and make your way back on your own.
The station and the main Tagata Shrine are about a 5-minute walk from each other.

毎年 3月15日、小牧市の田縣神社で行われる 豊年祭 は、日本でもかなりユニークなお祭りです。

木曽ヒノキで作られた 巨大な男根形の御輿 を、御旅所から田縣神社まで担ぎ、
五穀豊穣
豊作・繁栄
子孫繁栄
を祈願します。

オープンで明るい雰囲気のお祭りなので、海外からの観光客も多く
堅苦しさはなく、食べて歩いて笑って楽しめる、ゆったりしたお祭りです
「野も山も みなほほえむや 田縣祭」という詩の通り、自然と笑顔になれるイベントです。

️ 豊年祭は 小牧市指定 無形民俗文化財 に指定されています。

️ 田縣神社豊年祭は、よほどの悪天候でない限り開催されます。
雨天の中での観光になる場合もありますので、簡単な雨具があると便利です。混雑が予想されるため、傘よりもポンチョのほうが動きやすいと思いますが、最終的には各自の判断でご準備ください。

本格的な御輿行列の前に、まずはゆるくお祭り気分を楽しみます
露店やストリートフードをランチがわりに食べ歩き
周辺をのんびり散策
雑談しながら自由に過ごします
