Maha Shiva Ratri Celebrations At Jai Yoga: Kirtan Music & Meditation
Steep in the vast, still and infinite energy of Shiva with live music, kirtan and meditation. Together, we will use sacred chants and sound vibrations to uplift the mind and spirit. Tickets are by donation and funds raised will go to Joy Of Sharing: A volunteer initiative to prep fresh cooked meals for those in need.
Significance of Mahashivaratri:
Shiva is not a person, but the very energy on which the entire creation rests. This energy pervades the entire universe and is present within every living being. This energy is called the Shiva Tattva.
Ratri means that which gives rest, and comforts you. Night is when all activities stop. Everything is quiet and peaceful.
For thousands of years, people from all over the world have gathered on this night to sing and chant and the collective intention of everyone on this day makes it a powerful day for kirtan and satsang.
On Kirtan:
Kirtan is an ancient and joyful practice of simply coming together and singing. Although this idea exists in all cultures, Kirtan or “Satsang” consists of sounds, or mantras, strung together to have an uplifting effect on the nervous system.
A Kirtan session is usually call and response, so everyone can participate and benefit, even non-singers! We invite you to come along and learn this simple and joyful art of letting go and dissolving in the vibrations of ancient instruments and a gentle guided meditation after.
We created this space for everyone who enjoys connecting to themselves through music, chanting, mantras, bhajans and meditation.
