Discover China Foodie Tour: Mid -Autum Festival
Details
Mid-Autum Festival/Moon Festival is a major holiday for Chinese/Vietnamese and Koreans. It is a harvest festival similar to Thanksgiving that people get a long weekend to reunite with their family. The festival is held on the 15th day of the 8th month of the Chinese lunar calendar with a full moon at night, corresponding to mid-September to early October of the Gregorian calendar. Mooncake is one of the hallmark traditions of Mid-Autum Festival.
Temple City is hosting a "Hi Autumn" Festival on September 16 at Temple City Park. Why not host a dinner at Temple City and we can go to the festival afterward?
Red 99 Grill Bistro (Yelp Review: https://www.yelp.com/biz/red-99-grill-bistro-temple-city-2) is a popular restaurant in Temple City. Their lunch/dinner specials attract big crowds, and they also offer several unique Shanghainese dishes rarely seen in L.A.
We will sample the following:
Shaoxin wine drunken chicken (Great summer dish)
Liquor-soaked raw blue crab (It's an acquired taste. Raw and strong. Unique in LA)
Shanghai style seaweed fish
Black Truffle shrimp
Red Braised Pork (Melt in your month)
Crab (either fried with curry paste or Hong Kong style with fried garlic)
Dishes from $11.99 Dinner Specials (Braised Vermicelli in pot, Freid squid in Three Flavor sauce, Stir friend cauliflower in spicy sauce, Hunan Style fried pork, steam fish with black bean sauce etc)
We will dine in family style, share food and cost. Couple dishes might be marinated or cooked in alcohol, a specialty for Shanghainese food. The dinner is estimated $40 (or less) per person
Plenty of parking around. After dinner, I plan to head to Temple City Park for the Hi Moon Festival. There will be art, music and street food there.
