Topic Briefing:

Leaders are, to varying extents, both creators and stewards of culture. It is sometimes remarked that the times choose leaders. Some who's talents may shine in peacetime may not meet the demands of wartime. Perhaps a less well-considered aspect to 'the times' is culture itself. That is: how does culture select (or predispose those within a culture toward) who shall be its steward, and serve its future developments?

Do some cultures value leadership personalities, styles or political systems that other cultures might object to? What are the traits of cultures that make such styles or systems resonate? How do we contrast the qualities of leadership that are culturally specific, with those that are more universal?

Under what circumstances are leaders symptoms of a failed culture? In such circumstances - does the culture still shape their attaining their leadership?

Let's discuss.
