Brompton & Friends Downtown LA Bike Ride 17 miles
Hosted by SoCal eBike Riders
Details
Ready for an Urban Adventure? This ride starts in Los Angeles State Park and goes right through Chinatown, Olvera Street, Little Tokyo and the Arts District. The ride will take us past Broadway's historic buildings and the beautiful Tower Theater Apple Store. We'll visit the "new" Crypto.com arena, Convention Center and then onward to Exposition Park, Rose Gardens, Lucas Museum and California Science Center. The return trip will traverse Grand Park and we will also get a glimpse of the Disney Music Hall. See the route map for the spots we will cross. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/38421417
This is a leisurely ride with multiple stops for photo ops. It will be a no drop ride but you can opt to drop out if you get bored. The narratives, locations and a caravan of bikes with tiny wheels should keep this ride rather entertaining. View this event as a sightseeing trip by bicycle. Clip on shoes will be a slight disadvantage on this ride.
WHY BROMPTONS?
Bromptons are unique bikes. https://www.brompton.com/ They fold into a compact 23" x 22.2" x 10.6" and can fit under your desk. Despite the small size, they can keep up with "normal" road bikes in many applications - especially urban environment. Handling on crowded streets or sidewalks is amazing. It is legal to ride a bike on the sidewalk in Downtown LA unless it is done “with a willful or wanton disregard for the safety of persons or property” (LAMC 56.15).
Having own and ridden a Brompton for several years, I've been yearning to organize a ride with other Brompton riders. We have created a blended ride using a variation of a previous meetup route https://www.meetup.com/los-angeles-bicycling/events/282406091/ and are inviting both Bromptons and "regular" bikes.
WE DON'T DISCRIMINATE
All bikes are welcome. Class 1 & 3 ebikes and of course Bromptons.
If you want to try a regular Brompton, Brompton electric bike or simply need to rent a bike for this ride, just mention "JRLA Loves Bromptons" for a special rental rate at Just Ride LA https://www.justridela.com. Offer limited to supply on hand. Danny the founder of JRLA will join this ride as well and he's a huge Brompton fanatic.
