Coffeeneuring* 2022 Challenge Ride #4
Hosted by SoCal eBike Riders
Details
Join our Meetup group as we continue the 2022 Coffeeneuring Challenge! Don't drink coffee? Got you covered with tea, hot chocolate, cider, coffee stout, etc.! We will sponsor a qualifying coffeeneuring ride each Sunday for the next few weeks and try to get as many members as possible to complete the challenge.
Each ride has a distinct qualifying destination cafe or beverage store at which we will stop to enjoy our preferred beverage (I am a tea person but flexible) and get the required Challenge documentation. These will be independent shops (no Starbucks!) with good reviews.
Today’s destination is the King Beach Cafe in Playa del Rey. King Beach is part of the Playa Provisions complex, recently featured in "Bobby and Sophie on the Coast" on the Food Network. That's Bobby Flay of course! King Beach is known for its drinks and pastries, but real food is available too. The owners are well known chefs Brooke Williamson and Nick Roberts. FYI they also lead bike tours in Italy under the Tourissimo brand.
We head there on the flat Ballona Creek Bike Path and return up through Westchester and then down through Playa Vista, regrouping as needed so that no one is dropped,
*Coffeeneuring is what randonneurs do when they are not doing randonneuring (unsupported long-distance cycling). While randonneuring has a century+ history of epic riding in Europe, with the USA joining in 1997, coffeneuring was invented in the USA only 12 years ago by Randonneurs USA (RUSA) member Mary Gersema as an enjoyable, tongue-in-cheek variant for social riders like us.
Detailed cue sheets will be provided. The ride will be pre-ridden during the prior week to check on road conditions. Thus, updates may occur at the last minute.
