Discussion of Everyday Utopia by Kristen Ghodsee ??Possible??
Details
Dear RAD members:
Last night we had a wide-ranging discussion facilitated by Tammy, using quotes from "Come of Age" as prompts for discussion. We focused on Jenkinson’s expectations for Elders and Elderhood, although many threads came from that.
For the next meeting -- August 21st @ 7:30 on Zoom -- we decided to return to the theme of aging as opposed to dying: how to enjoy and make use of the period of roughly ages 70-85 when we are still relatively cogent and potentially active. Some of us are still quite interested in the idea of an inter-generational intentional community that provides for aging in place, as opposed to 55+ style retirement homes: a way for generations to mutually support and live together. So, we will be discussing Kristen Ghodsee’s work:
- [Amazon.com: Everyday Utopia: What 2,000 Years of Wild Experiments Can Teach Us About the Good Life eBook : Ghodsee, Kristen R.: Books](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0BHTPSGJ1?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creativeASIN=B0BHTPSGJ1&linkCode=xm2&tag=simonsayscom&asin=B0BHTPSGJ1&revisionId=478bb063&format=1&depth=1) the book on Amazon
- Everyday Utopia: What 2,000 Years of Wild Experiments Can Teach Us About the Good Life -- this is a summary of the book.
- Transcript: Ezra Klein Interviews Kristen Ghodsee - The New York Times . This interview is a little over an hour, but it covers many of the main points in the book.
So, if you only have a little time, listen or read the transcript to the Klein interview. If you want to get into the weeds, read the book. Hope you can join us on August 21st @ 7:30!
